Archaic South-African and Afrikaans place and farm names are the inspiration for Bisschoff's paintings, which examine the connection between name and image. Themes in these works involve the relevance of South-African landscapes to community, the political interference with regard to name changes and the creation of new identities. Created in the absence of external visual reference material, these new 'places' are thus described and created on canvas.
